Feline Infectious Rhinotracheitis (FIR) is a highly contagious viral disease caused by feline herpesvirus type-1 (FHV-1). It is a leading cause of upper respiratory infections in cats and a major component of the feline flu complex.

Cause and Transmission

The virus spreads through direct contact with infected cats, nasal and eye secretions, shared food bowls, litter boxes, bedding, and contaminated hands or clothing. It spreads rapidly in shelters and multi-cat households.
